“What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us?”
Iawoke this morning with this verse of scripture searing in my spirit and had to write about it. Romans 8:31 is a verse of scripture that is often used for encouragement during times of adversity. Today, God brought to mind how powerful, reassuring and consoling this verse of scripture really is. I truly thank him for reminding me about the grand scheme of things.
“What shall we say about the wonderful things that God has done?” We say Hallelujah! Praise the Lord! Thank you, Jesus! He has done so many incredibly amazing things. Sometimes it’s hard to formulate the words that completely express how truly in awe we are of his wondrous works in each of our lives. Today, think about what he has delivered you from, how he has healed you from sickness, how he has mended your broken heart and how he has answered prayers. Most of all, think about how he loves you so much that he paid the price to save you from eternal damnation. Worship God and give him the glory that he deserves for all the “wonderful things” he has done!
“If God is for us…” When I intensely think about who God is, I am overwhelmed by his tremendous power. Jeremiah 32:17(NLT) says, “O Sovereign Lord! You made the heavens and earth by your strong hand and powerful arm. Nothing is too hard for you!” Absolutely nothing is impossible for God to do. He is still doing miraculous things each and every day. Even at this very moment we ourselves or someone else in the world is receiving a blessing or experiencing a miracle from God. Then, I ponder on how deeply God loves me. Imagine the vast size of the universe. Scientists say that the universe is immensely large and infinite in volume. The love of God is bigger, deeper and wider than the universe. God is also faithful and GREAT is his faithfulness (Lamentations 3:23). God will always adhere to his promises to us and will never go against his word. The power, love and faithfulness of God stretch far beyond human comprehension. It is immeasurable! He is Almighty God and beside him, there is no other! Here is what the Lord says in Isaiah 44:6-8(NLT), “I am the First and the Last; there is no other God. Who is like me? Let him step forward and prove to you his power. Let him do as I have done since ancient times when I established a people and explained its future. Do not tremble; do not be afraid. Did I not proclaim my purposes for you long ago? You are my witnesses—is there any other God? No! There is no other Rock—not one!” I want to live a life that is worthy of God being for me in all that I do. In addition, I want to live for God in all that I do.
“Who can be against us?” If Almighty God, our rock and redeemer is for us, no one or nothing can be against us. Trials, disappointments, earthquakes and hurricanes will come and the scriptures tell us that we should think it not strange (1 Peter 4:12KJV). When these things happen, remember the power, love and faithfulness of God who is for us. We are more than conquerors through Jesus Christ. For this reason, I will persevere for him. I leave you with the remainder of Romans 8:35-39:
“Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? (As the Scriptures say, “For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.” No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
